A-G promises to help preserve antiquities - Leaders of the Committee Against
Destruction of Antiquities on the Temple Mount met yesterday with
Attorney-General Elyakim Rubinstein, who promised to do everything within his
power to prevent the destruction of antiquities.
The meeting came less than 48 hours after the committee sent an urgent letter
to Prime Minister Ehud Barak asking him to stop any further Wakf construction
on the Temple Mount.
Reserve Maj-Gen. Meir Dagan, who served as counter-terrorism advisor to both
Barak and former prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and who was one of the
signatories to the letter, said that “the argument that any action taken to
prevent illegal construction from being carried out will ignite the Moslems is
simply nonsense.”
